The trade below is the risk profile of my monthly SPX butterfly. My first target for adjustment is 1425, which at that point I will add a put fly and a call fly with anticipation of higher prices. I’d also like to share a weekly fly that I have been doing with great success the last few weeks.
The rule we follow when making adjustments is the "one-third rule." When we are down one-third of our max loss, we adjust. When we are down two-thirds of our max loss, we make another adjustment and when we are down three-thirds that will be our max loss, and we close out the trade. All adjustments are made with the idea of reducing our deltas.
