Adding too much engine oil. Check oil level by reading the dipstick, and consult your car owner's manual or vehicle repair manual for engine oil capacity for your particular vehicle model. Plugged oil filter or engine block bypass valve. This usually occurs when debris or buildup accumulate inside the bypass valve to prevent oil flow. Excess oil in the engine can cause engine damage and reduced efficiency. If the crank shaft is swimming in oil, the additional drag causes poor gas mileage, in some cases the pump will be sending froth to the bearings causing engine damage, these are of course extreme cases but worth noting. If the oil level climbs over the full mark, don’t hesitate to get professional advice. The oil won’t be doing it’s engine life-preserving voodoo if that happens - and that’s bad. Oil level rising on a regular basis could indicate that the DPF is coming towards the end of its life and therefore the engine is entering regen mode on a regular basis in order to reduce the DPF saturation level.
Check your vehicle's fluid levels are full e.g. engine oil, windscreen washer, cooling system, power steering, [].

Checking the oil levels in your car is essential to maintaining the life of the vehicle. It's one of the most straightforward bits of regular maintenance you can perform in your vehicle, important especially before long trips that will involve heavy engine use.
Of late, my last few checks on my engine oil dipstick showed that my engine oil level has increased. This was first discovered about a month ago. There are 2 tips on the dipstick. I noticed that since last month, the oil level has exceeded the upper tip of the dipstick. First check was in the mor The upper line indicates the maximum full mark. The oil level should not rise above this mark. The lower line represents the minimum mark and usually indicates the engine oil is approximately one-quart low. The engine oil level should be in the cross hatch section and at or slightly below the full mark when the engine is cool. Same for checking on a flat surface. It doesn’t take much slope to change oil level 1/4 inch. Check it a few more times both cold and hot in the same spot over a week or so. If it keeps rising, you may have a gasket failing letting coolant into the oil pan… and that is bad. Caught early, you can save the engine. Engine oil level has started rising and I can't figure out how it's happening. Engine starts fine on 100% diesel, no smoke. On almost 100% WVO it takes a few seconds of cranking and smokes for the first few minutes of driving. I've compression tested it and its 450 / 450 / 400 / 450 so cylinder 3 is down 50psi but still within spec.
Despite your 14,000 miles a year, this would normally indicate that you are not driving the car far enough or at high enough engine speeds. A succession of short runs from cold starts will clog the DPF, then the extra fuel injected into the engine for the active regeneration will sink into the sump, raising the oil level.
It depends on how much above max. You can read what happens when the oil level is excessive here. Make sure the oil level is actually increasing. So, I was wondering if anyone is experiencing engine oil level rising, just from using regular ULSD. I didn't expect to find the high oil level in just two tanks of B5 BioDiesel. I'll have to keep track of the oil level to see what is going on.
